Would you like to develop your skills so quickly and easily you could
- reduce tension and stress,
- enhance relaxation and sleep
- promote feelings of well being
Then join us for this unique two-day course …………
HEARTS was originally designed for situations when massage or aromatherapy were inappropriate, but there was still a need for well intentioned touch and the sound of a calm voice. (HEARTS is an abbreviation for Hands-on, Empathy, Aromas, Relaxation, Textures and Sound)
Feedback suggests that the techniques are particularly suitable for use “in the moment,” where people are anxious, in pain, unable to sleep or where patients and carers find talking difficult. HEARTS can be given through clothes & bed covers so there is no need for patients to remove clothing.
During the two days you will learn different ways of using skillful touch, either on its own or combined with the human voice. Easy to use relaxation techniques which can be adapted for any situation are also covered. The workshop will give you a versatile package for working with almost anyone, anywhere, and at any time.
N.B. You don’t have to be an aromatherapist or a complementary therapist to benefit from this course – the approach is suitable for nurses and nursing assistants in hospitals, hospices, and care/nursing homes
Course Cost: €250

Further details on trainers:
Ann Carter BA. Dip. Health Ed., Cert. Ed., Cert. NLP., Dip. NM
Ann’s background is in training and health promotion, and she has worked as a complementary therapist and teacher since 1989. She first became involved in working with people who have cancer in 1993, when she joined the staff of the Neil Cliffe Centre in Manchester as an aromatherapist. At the Centre, which catered for out-patients who could self-refer to the service, Ann became involved in numerous therapeutic activities; these involved aromatherapy, massage, and providing relaxation sessions for patient groups and individuals. To meet the needs of individuals at different stages of illness, Ann developed a therapeutic approach called ‘HEARTS’, and she has run many 2-day workshops to train therapists and health care professionals to use this approach. Ann has co-ordinated the complementary therapy service across the 3 sites of St Ann’s Hospice in Manchester, (including the Neil Cliffe Centre). She has also worked as a senior complementary therapist at the Christie and has played a significant role as education co-lead for the Integrative Therapies Training Programme. This role involved programme planning and devising some of the courses for developing the therapeutic skills of complementary therapists. She has also devised and facilitated many patient groups; topics have included Stress Management, Relaxation Skills, Managing Fatigue and Positive Approaches to Managing Anxiety. Ann continues to deliver courses for health professionals working in dementia care, hospice, and community settings.
