About Dr. Peter Mackereth:
COVID-19 Vaccination Nurse since January 2021. Honorary Lecturer/Researcher The Christie NHS Foundation Trust ongoing since retirement in 2016 from Clinical Lead Post & P/T Therapist St Ann’s Hospice Manchester from 2017
Peter has worked as a nurse in intensive care, neurology and oncology. He has also been a Lecturer and Reader within the University setting.
Peter has an MA in Medical Ethics and has completed a PhD project examining reflexology vs. relaxation training for people with Multiple Sclerosis. He has trained in reflexology, acupuncture, clinical hypnotherapy, biodynamic bodywork and aromatherapy/massage.

Peter has authored a number of papers and books and speaks nationally and internationally on complementary therapies, cancer care and smoking cessation. For 15 years he led the Complementary Health and Wellbeing Team at The Christie across three clinical sites in Manchester.
Peter’s recent and on-going collaborative studies include evaluating interventions for needle anxiety and phobia, fatigue, smoking cessation, peripheral neuropathy and lung cancer related breathlessness.

Peter established an Integrated Therapies Training Unit (ITTU) in 2001, now under the auspices of The Christie School of Oncology. Included in the ITTU programme is a 2-day Adapting Reflexology for Cancer Care course.
The focus in this training will be on adapting reflexology skills for cancer and palliative care, including :
examining myths and concerns
exploring techniques
positioning
evaluation the research evidence and
working with specific cancer/treatment related symptoms concerns.
Demonstration of HypnoReflex for easing symptoms e.g. gut disturbance, insomnia, anxiety
AcuReflex protocol for assisting with chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy
rapid self-soothing reflex techniques for procedure related anxiety and breathlessness
